Among the city ’s notable landmarks are the Fortress. Erebuni was founded by Urartian King Argishti I (r. ca. 785–7BC) in 7BC. After the earthquake, the Safavid governor of Erivan, Zal Khan, asked the Shah for help to rebuild Erivan, including the fortress and the Palace of the Sardars. During that time the city got its present name (instead of Erivan) and it was the period of complete reconstruction of the city.
