Please can you suggest a workaround or a correction. You need to know the name of the constraint that you are renaming. You can get the name of the constraint from USER_ CONSTRAINTS for tables you own. In addition, it invalidates all objects that depend on the renamed table such as views, stored procedures, function, and synonyms. Changes the name of a spatial index or a partition of a spatial index.
Specifies the new name of the index.
You must have EXECUTE privileges on the index type and its implementation type. The spatial index to be altered is not marked in-progress. I tried using alter index with subquery that selects the index name but oracle does not allow this. Use the RENAME statement to rename a table, view, sequence, or private synonym. You can achieve your goal if child column has the same name as referred column - there is template for that.
The RENAME COLUMN statement allows you to rename an existing column in an existing table in any schema (except the schema SYS). To rename a column, you must either be the database owner or the table owner. The customer_name column will be set to a varchar2(100) data type and not allow null values. RENAME TABLE statement RENAME TABLE allows you to rename an existing table in any schema (except the schema SYS ).
The following example demonstrates how to rename a CHECK constraint. First, let’s list out the CHECK constraints in the database, so we can decide which one to rename. Is it possible to rename a system named constraint ? We will use the persons table that we created in the previous tutorial for the demonstration. The drop constraint function allows the user to enter a constraint to drop from the table. This is the table that you wish to add a unique constraint to.
The name of the unique constraint. Oracle ALTER TABLE examples. Modifying a Table with Constraints ¶ If a table with constraints is rename the constraints for the table, as well as any foreign key constraints that reference the table are updated to reference the new name. Likewise, if a table is swapped with another, existing table, all the constraints on the table are maintained on the swapped table.
By correctly naming all constraints, we can quickly associate a particular constraint with our data model. Finally check the status of the schema objects. We will check the trigger status from “USER_TRIGGERS” table. Then we will RENAME trigger by ALTER TRIGGER statement and then check again the USER_TRIGGERS table.
You will notice new name of trigger in output. This script creates a script which will rename system generated check constraints to more intelligible names. To change this name to one that’s more appropriate for a business application, you can use the ALTER TABLE command’s RENAME CONSTRAINT option, as shown in the example in Listing 5. Complete the redefinition process.
Remember to drop the original table afterwards. In SQL Server, to rename a column you need to use the sp_ rename function. A CONSTRAINT clause can constrain a single column or group of columns in a table.
When renaming a constraint , the schema to which the constraint belongs must be specified. A foreign key means that values in one table must also appear in another table. Renaming constraints.
